Trim Levels (Exterior)
This vehicle has a prominent black or chrome grille with RAM lettering in the center and a sculpted hood. You can choose from seven trim levels: Tradesman, Tradesman HFE, Big Horn, Laramie, Rebel, Laramie Longhorn, and Limited. You can select a 6-foot-4-inch or a 5-foot-7-inch bed, and quad, regular, and crew cabs are available.
The Tradesman has a sturdy undercarriage and paint-free front and rear bumpers to protect it during rough tasks such as construction, moving, farm labor, or towing and transport duty. It also comes with automatic headlights, 18-inch wheels, daytime running lights, and heated manually folding side mirrors. The Big Horn is called the Lone Star in Texas, and it has an eye-catching chrome bumper.
With the Laramie Longhorn or the Limited, you'll get LED headlights and 20-inch wheels. You can open the optional multifunction tailgate like a set of doors, and you can add a panoramic sunroof, a power rear window, auto-dimming side mirrors, and rain-sensing windshield wipers.
Engine (Power)
The standard 3.6-liter V-6 engine produces 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. It uses a 48-volt mild hybrid system called eTorque to provide an additional 90 pound-feet of torque and increase fuel efficiency. A 5.7-liter V-8 with 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet is available as well. Its optional eTorque system has a more powerful battery, and it produces an extra 130 pound-feet of torque.
Performance
The new Ram 1500 is fun to drive, and it gives you a quiet, smooth, and comfortable ride. It has excellent acceleration, powerful brakes, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and outstanding maneuverability. It can tow up to 12,750 pounds and carry up to 2,300 pounds. A height-adjustable air suspension system is optional, and models with the V-8 engine can switch to half-cylinder mode to save fuel. With the V-6, you can get 17 mpg in urban areas and 25 mpg on the open road. The V-8 can go 23 mpg on highways, and it gets the same mileage in the city.
Interior
This truck has a comfortable interior and plenty of features. The Tradesman comes with a 5-inch touch screen, folding passenger seats, storage bins in the floor, and tinted acoustic glass for the windows and windshield. You can also choose memory settings for the driver's seat, heated and ventilated leather seats, an 8.4-inch touch screen, a 12-inch touch screen, wood paneling, dual-zone climate control, and a 115-volt power outlet. Other options include wireless charging, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, a universal garage door opener, and SiriusXM satellite radio.
Safety Features
Trailer sway control, stability control, roll mitigation, and traction control help make handling easier. The multistage front and side curtain air bags can inflate at different speeds for better protection, and you can add forward collision warning with braking assistance, hill descent control, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and parking assistance.
